So our voice in Congress, Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New Hartford, decided to make herself unavailable to her constituents during this past week’s congressional vacation, opting instead to take a trip to Afghanistan and Iraq in order to gain a better understanding of “terrorism funding mechanisms.”

What a brave service to her district!

Courageously, however, she says that she would be willing to interact with the voters who put her in office through “telephone town hall meetings,” where she would not have to face “paid protesters” who might disrupt a live forum by disagreeing with her.

Again, how heroic.

If Rep. Tenney is just going to use her vote to rubber stamp the anti-woman’s rights, anti-healthcare, anti-climate control legislation of her Republican cohorts, she should at least have the decency to face those of us who see her votes as depraved indifference to quality of life…and she should be willing to defend those votes in person.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Letters below regarding Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-New Hartford, were received shortly after she announced that she would be hosting telephone town hall meetings instead of the traditional in-person gatherings. On Wednesday, her spokeswoman announced that Tenney had decided to conduct an open public forum at a time and place to be determined.
