Power to change election results is un-American

We’re touched that Rep. Claudia Tenney exonerated the Oneida County Board of Elections, whose gross incompetence likely led to her election. Would Tenney have been equally gracious had Anthony Brindisi been declared the winner? Doubtful.

The biggest problem, however, is that Tenney’s Republican Party has recognized that they cannot win elections on issues, so they have flagrantly focused on passing state laws that give them the power to change election results. In Georgia it is now illegal to bring water or food to people waiting in long lines to vote, but legal for the state legislature to replace local election officials before they can certify election results that favor Democrats. This couldn’t be more un-American!

Much of this can be undone by passing the “For The People Act” in the Senate. Locally, we can fight back by not patronizing businesses or buying products that are based in Georgia, like Home Depot, Coca-Cola (Google how many products they make), and Delta Airlines. We can also donate to groups like New Georgia Project, Black Voters Matter Fund, Rise, Inc. and Fair Fight, who have already filed suit to overturn these laws.

American democracy will be over if these laws stick. Believe it!
