We were struck by the disparity on your opinion page of Tuesday, Sept. 10. On the left, you printed a “Local Perspective” about a posthumous honor rightly being bestowed on Steve DiMeo, for his lifelong efforts on behalf of the Mohawk Valley. Steve was a man who believed with all his heart that the only way forward was to forge relationships and work together for common goals. He was focused on those qualities that brought people together and his successes at Mohawk Valley EDGE only validated that philosophy.

Contrast that with two letters appearing on the right (figures) side of the page. These folks ranted on about, “the socialist Biden-Harris regime” and how Vice President Harris had, “failed miserably at her job.” They bemoaned the number of “aliens” and “illegals” that had been allowed to enter America, costing us taxpayers “millions” to provide them with services and support. “Take care of American citizens and veterans first”, one of them demanded.

Clearly, these two letter-writers will not be attending Steve’s award ceremony. They likely support a candidate and a party that proudly exploits our differences and preys on our fears, in order to maintain power. This Opinion page epitomizes the differences facing us on November 5. We stand alongside Steve DiMeo’s vision of humanity…and we will vote Democrat. We strongly urge our fellow Mohawk Valley neighbors to do the same.
