Utica rally was a celebration of America

We have just returned from the ‟No Kings” rally in Utica and several things immediately stood out to us.

First of all, we have rarely been prouder of our Utica community! The rally was quite well attended by people of all age groups and all were in quite a festive mood, considering the awful reasons that inspired the rally. There were no hints of violence. The signs were inspiring, funny, and right on target. ‟No Kings in America,” ‟Democracy Dies in Silence,” ‟Hey MAGA…Go Fact Yourself,” ‟I’m Here So I Can Tell My Grandson I Did Something!,” ‟NO Human Is Illegal,” ‟Law Is King…Trump Is Not,” and our favorite…a lady with a sign that said, ‟I Am Aunt Tifa!”

Second, hats off to Indivisible Mohawk Valley and the other co-sponsors who organized our local rallies. They provided guides who made sure that things went orderly and that no one put themselves in danger of being hit by the constant traffic. And most of the traffic were folks who honked and waved in support…with only a few jerks flashing a single finger. We suppose they were saying, ‟You’re number one!!”

Finally, it was obvious that MAGA politicians, TV personalities and anyone who characterized today as a ‟Hate America Day” ought to be ashamed of themselves! The Utica rally couldn’t have been more of a celebration of what America can and should be. Flags abounded, our anthem was sung and it was so clear that we all came out because of our outrage over Donald J. Trump and his minions’ attempts to destroy the democracy we love and thought was here forever.

We were proud to stand today with our fellow ‟Leftys, Liberals and Commies”, as a few of your letter writers fearfully describe us. Let us assure everyone that the people we shared today with at the 2025 Utica ‟No Kings Rally” are the best of Americans…Profiles in courage, all!
