Always Learning

We just watched Ken Burns’ “The American Revolution” on PBS, the same PBS that President Donald J. Trump has withheld federal funds from, because he is so deathly afraid of an educated American populace.

Well, we are both products of Metropolitan area public schools, both college graduates with Masters degrees…and we can see why Trump is so threatened. We were just stunned by what we learned about the birth of our own country, stunned by how much we didn’t know. We didn’t appreciate just how much American men and women suffered and sacrificed, we didn’t appreciate the complexity of writing the Declaration of Independence, we didn’t realize how many defeats George Washington suffered before emerging victorious.

Yet the most important lesson we learned was that these men and women were patriots, not “suckers and losers”. They did not make their sacrifices and endure their hardships only to have Donald J. Trump proclaim 250 years later from his golden ballroom that his greed and desire for power was more important than the cause they fought and died for, or the laws they struggled to establish. He is exactly who they fought against.

Trump is correct. Educated Americans are a threat to him. Thanks go out to Ken Burns and to PBS for reminding us of where we came from and who we are. We are not MAGA!
