Looking Back
For those of us who grew up knowing exactly where free agents like Catfish Hunter or Reggie Jackson were going to end up, seeing Tarik Skubal go to the Dodgers is like watching the Russians beat us to the moon!
I certainly do not miss George Steinbrenner’s Trump-like qualities. His throwing managers and coaches under the bus, his staggering impulsivity, his personal grudges and his refusal to take any responsibility for his actions were maddening at the time.
Yet I will say that, while Trump’s “America First” bleatings are just so utterly phony (He’s always “Trump First”), George actually did put the Yankees first! No matter how wild and crazy he acted…it was always in service to the Yanks winning.
Boy, I miss that part a lot these days!
